Code of Conduct

Purpose

This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all CCAM Observers and volunteers. Our Observers are the public face of CCAM and IAM RoadSmart, and their conduct directly reflects on the reputation of both organisations.

Standards of Conduct

All CCAM Observers and volunteers are expected to:

  • Treat all Associates, members, and members of the public with courtesy, patience, and respect.
  • Maintain a professional, supportive, and encouraging approach to all training activities.
  • Ride to the highest possible standard at all times as befits an IAM RoadSmart-accredited Observer.
  • Never put pressure on an Associate to ride beyond their ability or comfort zone.
  • Maintain impartiality and avoid favouritism in training.
  • Respect the confidentiality of Associates’ training progress and records.
  • Act in accordance with all CCAM policies, including this Code, the Equality & Diversity Policy, and the Safeguarding Policy.
  • Never conduct an observed ride whilst unfit to do so (including through fatigue, illness, or the influence of alcohol or drugs).

Observed Rides

When conducting observed rides, Observers must:

  • Hold a current, valid IAM RoadSmart Observer accreditation (IMI-accredited).
  • Ensure their motorcycle is legally roadworthy, insured, and properly maintained.
  • Conduct a pre-ride briefing as described in the Health & Safety Policy.
  • Provide constructive, evidence-based feedback after each session.
  • Record each observed ride using the required CCAM/ IAM RoadSmart documentation.

Conflicts of Interest

Observers should not conduct observed rides with close family members or individuals with whom they have a personal relationship that could compromise impartiality. Any potential conflict should be disclosed to the Observer Coordinator, who will arrange an alternative Observer.

Maintaining Accreditation

All Observers must maintain their IMI Observer accreditation in accordance with IAM RoadSmart requirements, completing all required continuing professional development (CPD) activities and revalidation on schedule.

Breaches of This Code

Breaches of this Code will be addressed under the Complaints Policy. Serious or repeated breaches may result in suspension or removal from the Observer role, and may be referred to IAM RoadSmart.

Review

This Code will be reviewed annually by the Committee.
